Introduction

As an introduction to our Community Boat Shed - we are just that – a group of local men and women which runs a shed in and for our community………Spring Bay, located in Triabunna, Tasmania. Coming under the
auspices of the not for profit Eastcoast Regional Development Organisation Inc, we celebrate the wooden boat building heritage of the district, our focus is on the practicalities of small boat restoration and management.

The Community Shed has been in operation since 2010, and with support from the Glamorgan Spring Bay Council, the Tasmanian Men's Shed Association, very generous donors, and now ERDO, we have an expanding membership of interested people ensuring that many opportunities are provided for satisfying personal aims and sharing real fellowship.

We are not a museum of maritime objects, but a working custodial maintenance site that seeks, where possible, to make practical use of the items that we manage.
There are now a large number of boats in the collection; many are ‘sailable’ while others are waiting for a bit of TLC. On water activities, some in conjunction with other groups such as the Living Boat Trust, the Wooden Boat Guild and Women on Water, are and will continue to be a major part of the Shed’s function and give incentive to getting ‘things done’.

As a small boat collective we value our time together and are working towards an on-water activity programme in the near future. Members will be able to enjoy the results of long hours of restoration work and share with other maritime organisations.

Members come to The Shed from the local community and further afield, wanting to support our restoration and developmental activities. The presentation of research into the History and background information of these objects forms a very important feature of the story our Shed has to tell.

Our Shed Charter introduces the ‘spirit of realisable cooperation’ for our members. Striving to achieve this happy group feeling whilst operating a variety of activities within and beyond the Shed building is a commitment, challenge and source of excitement.

The Shed is open on Mondays when on-site work combines with planning for the week and a midday lunch. Not all weeks are organized in the same way as we are frequently involved in off-site activities.
